Mould and tool making with the use of plastic deep drawing

Thermoforming of plastic is a technique that is used in many ways at swissplast. On the one hand, plastic moulded parts are produced for prototypes and small series. On the other hand, this process can also be used in tool and mould making.

Toolmaking and mould construction – with the help of plastic and thermoforming

It has long been known that plastic is now a first-class material for producing moulded plastic parts to precise colour, shape and surface specifications. The injection moulding process is widely used, but swissplast deliberately does not use it. The reason: thermoforming is cheaper, faster and it is even possible to build tools and moulds from plastic.

These arguments explain why swissplast does not use the injection moulding process and instead specialises in plastic deep drawing – both in the production of prototypes and small series and in mould making, tool making and as a plastic manufacturer for many other special cases. Visually, you will not notice any differences between a tool making from injection moulding and our thermoforming process.

In the area of tool making and mould making from plastic, we manufacture component prototypes, tools for test series and pilot series as well as tools that we produce for you in series. One area of application here could be the production of miniature plastic housings. In order to be able to manufacture these in small batches after acceptance of the prototype and still at a reasonable price, we go the way from the initial concept to the development of the tool to the final implementation of the tool construction made of plastic together with you.

Toolmaking and mould construction by plastic deep drawing

Our profession lies in the production of plastic moulded parts with the help of the many technological possibilities at swissplast. We are constantly refining this in order to be able to offer you a wide range of possibilities in plastics technology, for example through special solutions such as assembly manufacturing. In order to be able to manufacture your plastic moulded parts, we produce moulds and tools. We can also offer you these technical possibilities.

General information

The use of plastic parts in tool and mould making has been common practice for many years. As cladding parts, but also as a basic framework, plastic is an excellent material in toolmaking.

Plastic parts are cheap, fast and can be produced in large quantities. In addition, plastic is lighter than metal and wood, but at the same time similarly robust as metal and sheet metal parts.

We manufacture plastic parts with a base area of up to 3000 x 2000mm. This means that particularly large shapes can also be produced. We can realise material thicknesses between 2 and 14mm, as well as perforations, drillings or notches.

FAQ

The areas of application for plastic parts are very variable: In toolmaking, for example, we implement orders for component prototypes, small series, pilot series, test series, but also large series.

The plastic parts that we manufacture in the area of toolmaking and mould making are often cladding parts, casings or covers. In addition, plastic is so stable that it can also be used as the basic framework of a tool.

As in every one of our fields of work, we also proceed with high precision in toolmaking. The desire for the ideal plastic part always comes first for us.

Plastic parts for toolmaking and mould making

swissplast is your reliable partner when it comes to the construction of plastic parts for tool and mould making. We manufacture cladding parts, casing parts or frame parts from high-quality plastic for you cost-effectively, on time and sustainably. We use the deep drawing process, which, in contrast to injection moulding, is faster, cheaper and more versatile. We also offer detailed post-processing, such as milling or drilling, using our CNC-controlled, high-precision machines. The end result of each production process is a perfectly crafted plastic part that is ideal for your tool and can be attached immediately. Feel free to contact our professionals for advice regarding mould making and tooling with plastic.

Toolmaking with plastic at swissplast

Deep drawing, or thermoforming, means that we are hardly restricted in our production methods and can realise virtually any desired shape – naturally also in toolmaking with plastic and in mouldmaking with plastic. In thermoforming, a rectangular plastic sheet is melted and made malleable by applying heat. It is drawn over a template and the air is sucked out through small nozzles. This creates an ideal copy of the positive stencil and requires less finishing of the plastic part. Nevertheless, for the individualisation of plastic parts in toolmaking, we like to resort to production steps such as CNC milling, through which we can refine the parts and prepare them for further processing.

Outstanding quality from Switzerland and Germany

swissplast stands for innovative plastics technology and precise production – this also applies to the business area of plastic parts for toolmaking and mould construction. On the one hand, we benefit from the diverse possibilities of thermoforming, and on the other hand from our conviction that the best products are created through precise work. From the selection of the plastics, to the planning of the moulded parts in mould making, to the production of the parts and their post-processing, we carry out each individual work step with care and perfection. In the end, our customers benefit from this and our plastic parts in the mould making department bear witness to the highest Swiss and German engineering skills. Let us convince you of our products and send us an enquiry with your project in the area of plastic parts tool making or plastic parts mould making.
