Plastic components for caravans
Plastic components for caravans are another of swissplast’s core areas of expertise. Due to their low weight and almost infinite formability, thermoformed components are perfect for caravan and motorhome production.
Among other things, swissplast supplies almost all major manufacturers with cover and drawbar covers. We are constantly working to improve the design, reliability and durability of plastic molded parts for caravans.
What are the advantages of plastic parts for caravans?
Plastic moulded parts made to measure for caravans
The established drawbar covers not only impress with their appearance, but also with even greater functionality. Lightweight, custom-made plastic products have long been an important component in the caravan industry. In addition, our drawbar covers have excellent UV resistance, impact resistance and chemical resistance.

Material of the plastic moulded parts
When it comes to the exterior design of our components for caravans, there are hardly any restrictions for us. We have a variety of different working materials at our disposal, which differ in terms of material, thickness, color or surface finish.
The drawbar covers are available in different colors and with different surfaces, depending on requirements:
ASA matt black
ABS printed
PMMA backprinted
swissplast Premium Cover and drawbar cover
Design surface
UV and weather resistant
Bonded with reinforcing ribs
Multi-part structure
Long service life
Wide range of customization options
Perfect interaction with metal components
Inexpensive and fast production
Plastic front flap
One area of application for deep drawing parts are front flaps and tailgates for caravans. The use of plastic in this area has many advantages: On the one hand, the weight of the flap is reduced compared to a component made of GRP. This means that the lifting mechanism does not have to apply as much force and therefore wears out more slowly. On the other hand, plastic parts can be manufactured very individually as well as cheaply, thus reducing the overall costs of production.

Interesting facts about deep-drawn caravan parts
Choosing the right plastic for caravan components is crucial for durability and functionality. Materials such as ABS, polycarbonate, or glass fiber reinforced plastics offer high stability, UV and weather resistance, and impact resistance. These properties are particularly important for exterior panels, roof hoods, or bumpers that are exposed to extreme weather conditions. Lighter plastics with a pleasant feel and visually appealing surface are often used for interior applications. In addition, special additives can be added to increase resistance to scratches, chemicals, or discoloration.
The thermoforming process enables the cost-efficient production of complex and large components in a single step. It offers design flexibility, as a wide variety of shapes and contours can be created for the interior and exterior parts of the caravan. The process is ideal for the production of cladding, roof structures, or covers that are lightweight, robust, and aesthetically appealing. In addition, changes in design can be implemented quickly by adapting the tools, which is particularly advantageous for individually designed caravan models.
Modern plastics for caravans are not only durable, but have also become more environmentally friendly. Many of the materials used are recyclable and production residues can be returned to the manufacturing process. Lighter plastic components also help to reduce fuel consumption, which lowers CO2 emissions during caravan use. Companies such as swissplast are increasingly focusing on sustainable production methods and environmentally friendly materials in order to minimize the ecological footprint of the caravan industry. In this context, we have also been offsetting our own greenhouse gas emissions for many years and are therefore CO2-neutral.
Caravans are constantly exposed to changing weather conditions, from intense UV radiation and rain to extreme temperature fluctuations. High-quality plastic components offer excellent resistance to deformation, fading, and cracking. They are water-repellent, corrosion-free, and even resistant to chemical stresses such as road salt. These properties make them ideal for long-term use, as they reduce maintenance costs and extend the service life of the caravan.
Plastic components are used in a wide variety of applications in caravan construction—from roof hatches, exterior aprons, and bumpers to interior trim, furniture, and sanitary facilities. In the interior, they provide lightweight, functional, and visually appealing solutions, while on the exterior, they impress with their robustness and weather resistance. Tanks, insulation, and technical covers are also made of plastic, as the material is not only lightweight but also flexible and adaptable, thus meeting the various requirements of caravan construction.
swissplast is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of plastic components for caravans. Our thermoformed parts for caravans and motorhomes are used both indoors and outdoors and meet the highest quality standards. Our product range is extensive: swissplast already produces light carriers, rear light carriers, aprons, side skirts, bottle box covers, drawbar covers, wheel arch shells, wheel arch trims, and wheel covers. All caravan components have extremely high impact resistance, UV resistance, and weather stability. In addition, combining plastic caravan parts with other composite materials such as leather, imitation leather, or fabric is no challenge, enabling us to create an elegant look inside the caravan as well.
When it comes to caravan cladding, there are virtually no limits: whether interior cladding, fittings, door paneling, seat covers, ceiling cladding, or storage surfaces—we can respond flexibly to customer requirements and produce customized thermoformed parts for caravans. We also have a high level of expertise in the field of exterior cladding for caravans, thanks to our many years of experience. Among other things, we manufacture light carriers, bezels, drawbar covers, aprons, wheel covers, and other exterior components. All our products can be modified as desired after thermoforming using CNC milling or assembly production. These diverse options raise the quality of our plastic molded parts for caravans to an even higher level.
One of our core products that we manufacture for the caravan market is the caravan shower tray. A wet room in a caravan is a highlight of any caravan interior, as it increases the comfort of the caravan. We are happy to supply the necessary individual components for a wet room in a caravan, such as washbasins for caravans, shower columns for caravans, or shower trays for caravans. Here, too, we guarantee millimeter-precise manufacturing of the caravan parts for uncomplicated installation. We also attach great importance to the quality of the materials so that even after many years of intensive use, wear and tear on components such as the shower column, sink, or shower tray is kept to a minimum.
